**Brief Posting Description** Responsible for assisting the Tax Manager in the research and analysis of transactions and other tax activities; the preparation and/or review of tax filings, journal entries and reconciliations; and support of all other aspects of tax-related financial reporting and compliance. Performance of duties in an internal control environment. Preparation and/or review of income and property tax returns and related reports. Establishes and maintains income and property tax files and records. Establishes and maintains income tax basis depreciation records. Assists in the preparation of annual budget for all tax related expenses. **Note** : There is one position available, and this position will be filled at one of four job grade levels: Accountant I (Tax), job grade 5; Accountant II (Tax), job grade 7 Accountant III (Tax), job grade 8 or Senior Accountant (Tax), job grade 9. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire. **Tri-State recognizes the value of a highly engaged and committed workforce and provides an excellent benefits program that includes** : Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Flexible Work Schedules including compressed work week and telecommuting opportunities to work remotely up to 50%, Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Tuition Reimbursement, Life Insurance, Retirement Option, Long Term Disability (LTD), Short Term Disability (STD), Employee Assistant Program (EAP) and Paid Leave Benefits. **Senior Accountant (Tax)** Hiring Salary Range: $94,000-$128,000 **Accountant III (Tax)** Hiring Salary Range: $82,000-$112,000 **Accountant II (Tax)** Hiring Salary Range: $74,000-$101,000 **Accountant I (Tax)** Hiring Salary Range: $61,000-$83,000 Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education and/or skill level. **Job Requirements** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Provide strong, dependable, support for the tax function while exhibiting a strong work ethic, timeliness, collaborative behaviors, ownership of work product and commitment to process improvement. + Manage and perform the research and analysis of tax pronouncements, rulings, laws, and regulations, and inform Tax Manager of their implications on the Company's compliance and financial reporting. + Review work performed by others to ensure accuracy. + Prepare clear documentation, filings and associated general ledger entries. + Assure the development and maintenance of a comprehensive tax planning and reporting system using current technology. + Assist Tax Manager in developing responses and reports delivered to both internal and external parties. + Prepare journal entries and reconcile tax account balances for both GAAP and FERC ledgers. + Prepare tax reporting for both SEC Form 10-Q and 10-K and content for FERC Form 3Q and FERC Form 1. Draft initial responses to FERC requests for review by Tax Manager. + Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education and Training + Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax or a closely related discipline, CPA desired. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: + Knowledge of State and Federal income tax law, compliance, legal precedent, and audit practice and procedures. + Experience in researching income tax laws, rulings, guidelines, regulations, and pronouncements. + Familiarity with utility accounting and FERC regulation. + Knowledge of property tax methodologies, appraisal theory, practices, and procedures. + Familiarity with Oracle and/or other general ledger accounting systems. + Knowledge of ASC 740, regulatory accounting, and generally accepted accounting principles. + Excellent command of Microsoft applications, especially Excel, and general ledger systems. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with tax authorities, Tri-State members, internal personnel, and other professionals. + Ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbally and written. Experience: + Five (5) years of professional accounting and tax experience. **Note:** The above requirements describe the experience and education qualifications for the Senior Accountant (Tax). Those with less experience will be hired at the I, II or III job grade level. Other: + Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all the essential functions of the position. + Utility tax accounting experience desired. + Electric Cooperative experience desired. + SEC financial reporting experience desired. + FERC reporting experience desired. + Public accounting experience desired. + Willingness to travel as required. (Must possess a valid driver's license.)
