Responsibilities: Perform a range of minor service functions
involving mechanical and basic electrical components. This is an
entry level position and provides opportunities to gain knowledge
for the higher skills required in the level II position.
Technicians will learn to use more specialized diagnostic equipment
and gain greater independence performing work assignments. The
duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the
various types of work that may be performed with the proper
certification and experience. Performs routine preventative
maintenance, inspections and repairs on automobiles, light and
medium-heavy duty trucks snow plows, and similar vehicles. Perform
basic level up fitting of equipment for all classes of vehicles in
the fleet. Conducts maintenance, inspection, testing, diagnosis,
and repair operations on all vehicle and equipment systems
including: engines, gas, diesel, and alternative fueled vehicles.
Participates in repair of all gas-powered vehicles and heavy
equipment; periodic vehicle inspections and regular maintenance.
Lubricates chassis and changes oil; repairs flats, shocks, lights,
brakes and steam-cleans engines on vehicles. Services ignitions,
differentials, and transmissions and transfer cases. Repairs
suspensions, steering, differential and driveline systems; repairs
electrical, air conditioning, exhaust, hydraulic, and cooling
systems. Welds and/or retrofits automobiles, maintenance equipment.
Conducts engine analyzer tests. Performs Department of
Transportation (DOT) inspections. Repairs and maintains riding lawn
mowers, push mowers, edgers, blowers, and power saws. Participates
in overhauling motors and minor repairs of street sweepers.
Performs repair-type welding and fabrication. Drives agency
vehicles off grounds. Provides necessary information for completion
of work orders. Provides care and maintenance of shop equipment.
Picks up supplies. Writes work order notes. Cleans work area and
personal and shop tools. Requisitions for parts and supplies.
Performs annual training as required. Performs other duties as
assigned. Minimum Qualifications: An equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience that demonstrates required
knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Fleet
Technician I: Generally, a High School diploma or GED equivalent;
supplemented with vocational training in auto and equipment repair.
One (1) year of previous work experience as a technician; or any
equivalent combination. DOT Inspector Certification is required or
ability to obtain within one (1) year. ASE Certification G1 Auto
Maintenance and Light Repair is desired; or ability to attain
within one year of employment. A valid Colorado Class B CDL
driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement is required, or ability
to obtain within one (1) year. Fleet Technician II: Generally, a
High School diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented with vocational
training in auto and equipment repair. Three (3) years' previous
experience as a technician; or any equivalent combination. DOT Air
Brake Inspector Certification is required. G1 Auto Maintenance and
Light Repair. ASE Master Automobile or Master Medium/Heavy Truck
Technician is desired. Valid Colorado Class B CDL driver’s license
with Air Brake endorsement is required, or ability to obtain within
one (1) year. Master Technician: Generally, a High School diploma
or GED Equivalent; supplemented with vocational training in auto
and equipment repair. Five (5) years of previous experience as a
technician; or any equivalent combination. ASE Certified Master
Technician is required. DOT Air Brake Inspector Certification is
required. DOT Inspector Certification is required. Completion of
Certified Competent Person training. Valid Colorado Class A CDL
driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement, or ability to obtain
within one (1) year. This position is part of the Town’s snow
removal program. Will have scheduled on-call responsibilities
through the winter months to remove snow using a 4-wheel drive
pickup and/or heavy equipment. Snow removal shifts are typically 12
hours. Licenses and/or Certifications: a valid Colorado Driver's
License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of procedures,
methods, supplies, materials and tools for vehicle and equipment
diagnosis. Knowledge of proper and safe repair techniques for
equipment and tools. Knowledge of proper and safe work practices.
Knowledge in repairing equipment, utilizing a wide variety of tools
and equipment. Skill in communicating effectively. Ability to
understand verbal and written work orders and requests. Ability to
work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to
understand and interpret repair manuals, CD ROM Manual System,
Electrical Diagrams, and Hydraulic System Diagrams. Ability to
maintain necessary work records. Ability to interpret Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Regulations and Job Requirements to ensure
compliance within Town fleet. Visual perception and discrimination
ability. Ability to maintain effective work relationships. Physical
Demands: Moderate to heavy physical work to include lifting and
maneuvering up to 100lbs Frequent performance of activities
requiring a full range of body movement including climbing,
balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, and/or
twisting Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools and
electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles
Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information Speech
communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees
and citizens Ability to physically access various points within the
Town’s facilities and properties, including the out-of-door
environment where vehicles may be located. Work Environment: Works
regularly in typical shop conditions that involve exposure to dirt,
dust, odors, wetness, fumes, noise extremes, machinery, vibrations,
electric currents, and toxic agents Occasionally works outdoors in
conditions that involve exposure to pollen, humidity, rain,
temperature extremes and traffic hazards Equipment Used: This
position may require the occasional use of personal equipment (e.g.
vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
