Veterinary Criticalist
Salary: $175,000 - $225,000 base (plus production compensation with
no negative accrual)
Title: Board-Certified Doctor of Veterinary Emergency and Critical
Care

Job Summary:
The Veterinary Criticalist is a specialized veterinarian who
manages and treats critically ill or injured animals, often in
emergency or intensive care settings. These professionals are
highly trained in handling severe medical conditions and
life-threatening situations, providing around-the-clock care for
animals in critical condition. Their role includes diagnosing
complex conditions, managing trauma cases, performing advanced
medical procedures, and working closely with other veterinary
specialists to provide comprehensive treatment.
Veterinary Criticalists are responsible for overseeing patient care
in emergency rooms or intensive care units (ICU), providing support
to general practitioners, and communicating treatment plans to pet
owners. They must be skilled in a variety of disciplines, including
anesthesia, surgery, internal medicine, and emergency response.

Unlike most corporately owned hospitals, you will work closely with
the hospital owner and management who are committed to your
personal and professional success. EVS is a 26,000 sq foot
state-of-the-art facility featuring CT Scanner (Toshiba Aquilion 64
slice), GE and Phillips ultrasound units. EVS also has many scopes
including gastroscopy, interventional fluoroscopy, and
bronchoscopy.
EVS is located less than 10 min. outside of Denver with quick

Required Licenses, Registrations, & Insurance by Colorado Law:
Colorado Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) License.
Board Certification from ACVECC.
Registration with DORA.
AVMA PLIT Insurance.
DEA License.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with ZCA patients & appropriate ZCA triage
practices, a plus but not required.
Specialist Duties & Responsibilities:
Advanced training and education as described by the ACVECC
guidelines.
Provide expert care to patients with critical care cases including
diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex medical conditions
and trauma.
Collaborate with other specialists and emergency doctors to deliver
comprehensive care to patients.
Willingness to triage and stabilize ZCA patients and collaborate
with ZCA specialty department.
Utilize advanced diagnostic and treatment options, including CT
Scanner, C arm with fluoroscopy capability, GE Logiq E, Vivid IQ,
and Phillips ultrasound units.
Working knowledge and experience with various types of scopes
including laparoscopy, interventional fluoroscopy, and
bronchoscopy.
Participate in a collaborative team approach to provide the AAHA
standard of veterinary care.
Keep careful medical records for all patients, treatments
administered, exams, and procedures.
Ensure all treatment records are completed within 24 hours of the
end of each shift.
Regularly attend and participate in hospital rounds.
Attend mandatory meetings that include, but are not limited to:
All Staff Meetings
Specialty DVM Meetings
Department Meetings
Promptly answer and return calls from referring doctors, clinics,
and clients.
Consistency in leading, managing, and coaching department
technicians and technician assistants.
Participate in department Team Building activities when
available.
Working knowledge of the following platforms: EzyVet, Instinct,
IDEXX, Cubex.
Attend and teach hospital CE opportunities for community and
staff.
Includes Lunch and Learns and attending marketing events to help
bring new clientele to EVS and the Critical Care department.
Work with rDVM clinic doctors to collaborate on care plans and
follow-up with them regarding treatments administered.
Create and provide accurate treatment plans (estimates) to clients
and adjust as needed for current patient needs maintaining within
the client's financial limitations.
Ensure that the treatment of animals is done ethically, balancing
medical needs with the welfare of the animal.
Other duties as assigned; this list is not exhaustive, & employer

Prioritize safety and care in operating all equipment and handling
all species of patients.
Strong emotional intelligence and de-escalation skills (client and
staff).
Ability to explain treatment and charges/invoices to clients when
necessary.
General understanding of AAHA standards and regulations.

Schedule Expectations:
Full-time Criticalist works approximately 16 shifts in a four (4)
week period equaling approximately 208 shifts per calendar year.
Shifts typically vary and may include holidays, weekends, swing
shifts, overnights, and on-call if necessary to fill the needs of
the hospital.
